Susan Boland launched her successful website, Shestories, over 15,000 visitors ago. She published her first book, Put Some Mayo on That, in 2014. Boland graduated from The New School in New York City with her Bachelor of Arts after having attended the University of London for an extended two-year study abroad. She also holds a Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics from George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, and her terminal degree is a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia.
Susan’s life as a navy-wife placed her in an endless series of unusual places surrounded by uncommon people. Her role as a navy-wife-mother to two sons often left her a single parent in the oddest of circumstances. Her career teaching English as a Second Language at Tidewater Community College put her in the regular company of a diverse group of the most remarkable students from, literally, every continent on the planet. And Susan’s overseas experiences, most especially in the west of Ireland, continue to deeply inform her writing. Look around Shestories, and you will come to understand how all these aspects of her life come together in her writing, writing which is accessible, understood, and celebrated by all who read her.
Susan and her husband, Bookie, divide their time between Virginia Beach, Virginia and Lecanvey, County Mayo, Ireland.
